Myanmar military army has guaranteed to work with the new elected government. The country’s landmark election was held in Sunday. An army official Min Aung Hlaing opined that they would co-operate the country’s new government during the post-election period.
The Nobel winner leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s party National League for Democracy is in the condition of major winning taking over 80% vote. It is happened openly after 25 years when in a general election in 1990 NLD won but the leader Aung San Suu Kyi placed under long term house arrest only to invalidate the result.
But still 25% seats are reserved to the military refers that they possess enough influence in the country’s policy making. Counting about 47% of result indicate that NLD is in just 38 seats short of a majority published in Thursday morning. The present military supported government Union Solidarity Development Party (USDP) – which won the last unfair election five years ago has so far got about 5% of the seats.
Already The President Thein Sein and the military chief Aung Hlaing have congratulated Ms Aung San Suu Kyi on her victory. They express their willingness to discuss with Aung San Suu Kyi on national reconciliation with her after the final result are announced.
In Myanmar governmental system the president does not possess as much as power as we could see in the other countries. The chief security ministries like defense, home affairs and border affairs are chosen by the head of the army not the president. And moreover there cannot be any constitutional changes without military permission.
